It was a gorgeous day, and warm for January, so we decided to head out and take Leah to the zoo! I thought we'd have to wait until at least March for this kind of weather, but we lucked out and had a fabulous time! The animals were out, and Leah loved watching them move around and play.

The monkeys were first, and I think Leah was a little confused that the animals she sees in her books all the time were actually alive and running around. She did "talk" to the monkeys, and got to hear them talk to each other.

This gorilla was pretty cool, and he had a friend that kept running back and forth in front of the windows. Leah wasn't so sure about the friend, and didn't want to get too close.

Leah loved the meerkats! I think she was excited to see something a little more her size.

The elephants were in a very playful mood, throwing around sticks and balls. We watched them for quite some time before Leah declared them "all done". :)

When we turned the corner and saw the giraffes, she got super excited! They must talk about them at school because we tend to focus on the animals that make noise here at home (I don't know why, it's just how it has been). She said "raffe" and waved and waved at them.

Since Leah loves to see the birds out the window in the car, we thought for sure she'd love the big birds at the zoo. They have this enclosure with a bunch of parakeets and cockatoos flying around, and she was very interested in watching all the birds up close.

Daddy and Leah in with all the birds

Towards the end of the afternoon, we came upon the carousel! A little unsure at first, by the end of the ride, Leah was holding on and showing big smiles!

We ended the day with a ride on the "choo-choo" (also a perfect way to get back to the entrance without having to walk!). Leah's eyes were big and wide the whole time, but she sat like a big girl and had a blast!

Here she is not five minutes after we got in the car to head home. We really wore her out! :) All in all, a fantastic day!
